Safety

Teachers can spot clean with Sanitation wipes. Classrooms will be disinfected daily. Students will be dismissed in a staggered format over a few minutes to make it so fewer children get up from their seats and it avoids crowded hallways etc

Please let your school nurse know that you need a thermometer.

Sites may offer outdoor learning spaces as was featured in the video.

We are using two disinfectants for daily disinfecting of the classrooms. Both are on the U.S. EPA list N for being effective against COVID. These products will be used in a fog of the room overnight, and will be also used in a spray bottle for things like sink handles, etc. With spraying at night, the disinfectant (which only takes 1 -10 minutes to be effective) has plenty of time to settle, dry and the room to air out before students return the next morning. The Solsta 710 product has been used in our district for years for daily disinfection of restrooms and other areas. They are currently products from Waxie Sanitary Supply: (1) Solsta 710 – Quaternary ammonium based disinfectant (2) Solsta 730 – Hydrogen Peroxide based disinfectant

The tesing plan is still being created and no details are available yet.

School will continue to have onsite nursing and counseling support.

We are coordinating with the county department of public health to work with contact tracing nurses to identify students and staff who are positive, notify sites as appropriate and then monitor as appropriate. We will close with consultation with the county department of public health according to their current recommendations.

Once we are notified of a positive result, we will notify sites and close contacts as defined.

Different districts have implemented a variety of reopening plans from the am/pm model to all students on campus.

The SDUSD is using CDC guidelines along with our own panel of medical and scientific experts from the University of California at San Diego.

Phase 1

The number of students and teachers will be determined by the site.

There have been 4,000 appointments for in-person learning across 106 schools in Phase 1. Schools will continue increasing the number of appointments in the weeks ahead, with the goal of soon providing time slots for secondary and pre-K students.

A school team and families will determine which students attend phase 1. Phase 2 will be deciced by sites and families.

The district is offering appointment based learning to students who are performing below grade level or not making progress or not meeting their IEP goals. There are also considerations for students who have intense support needs or need to their initial or triennial assessment.

Phase 1 will be a site decision. Phase 2 for elementary will be a half day am/pm model and secondary phase 1 will be a site decision and Phase 2 will be two days a week using the current class schedule.

Each site will organize the onsite learning time and will communicate information regarding lunch breaks.

All materials related to our response to the virus are posted on our website.

Educators will continue to provide online learning. Families may communicate with teachers and or site adminstration to share their concerns for their child.

Phase 2

A start date for Phase 2 was announced October 27, 2020. Phase 2 will begin on January 4th for elementary stites and January 25th for secondary schools.

Phase 2 will be announced by district leaders or the Board of Education. Phase 1: To comply with the health and safety guidelines for phase one, it is small groups of students and all students need to be able to wear masks.

On October 27, it was announce that January 4th elementary sites will start with an am/pm model four days a week and seconday schools will begin onsite learing on January 25th attending 2 days to reduce the number of students in the classroom. This plan is on track pending these two factors: 1. lack of success in controlling the virus in Phase 1 and 2. External conditions of the virus in the community.

Grading and Testing

We are preparing for in-person exams for PSAT/NMSQT for 11th graders in January.

Contact your child’s teacher if there are extenuating circumstances that have contributed to a student unable to attend or participate in synchronous or asynchronous learning.

Other

We are planning in collaboration with the health and safety guidelines and in collaboration with our labor groups. We are starting on a small scale and then expanding after an evaluation of the first phase.

Phase 1 was shared with site principals on September 29, 2020. Administrators began to activate their plan with staff for phase 1.

Phase 1 will be a site decision. Phase 2 for elementary will be a half day am/pm model and secondary phase 1 will be a site decision and Phase 2 will be two days a week using the current class schedule.

Site principals are in dialogue with their staff. It is important for us to understand the personal circumstances as they relate to safety.

The district has been in communication with other districts. The district is relying on input and guidance from health experts to determine our reopening plans.

Following the guidance from UCSD, Phase 1 serves as an onramp to expanding onsite teaching and learning. We will be actively evaluating the success of our phases.

Following the science, teachers will be on campus teaching students.

Different districts have implemented a variety of reopening plans from the am/pm model to all students on campus.

Sites have other educators on site to support with Phase 1 learning such as resource teachers and paraprofessionals.

The Executive Leadership is the Executive Leadership Team in the Office of Leadership and Learning within the SDUSD.
