Never stop learning
That’s what parents tell their children. Now we offer ALL families many great opportunities to set an example, and never stop learning themselves with these programs:
San Diego Parent University
Comprehensive series of classes training parents on effective ways to boost student success and strengthen family ties. Since it started in 1996, thousands of families have benefitted from this popular program. Specially trained teachers travel to neighborhood schools to conduct classes on a variety of topics that help families support their students. Parents get useful information to help their children’s scholastics and behavior. Classes offered weekdays and Saturdays. We welcome all schools, and each site recruits parents and provides childcare.
Project Ujima
Dedicated to boosting student achievement by partnering with families of African-American students. Free evening classes tap the rich diversity of knowledge and experience within the community. Free dinner provided at some programs, plus childcare, translation services, homework stations for the kids and prizes.
Computers On The Go
Helping parents break the digital divide. We’ve got the computers, and we teach you how to use them! Our labs help parents sharpen computer skills — all the better to help guide your children to online learning resources. Families learn how to navigate San Diego Unified’s website to find what they need for their children. Plus, our mobile computer lab brings these excellent parent-computer classes to you.
Parent Leadership Professional Development
Classes are designed to prepare families to assume leadership roles at their children’s schools. Topics include how to run and effective meetings, resolve conflict, plan agendas and successfully work in a group. Free classes at Ballard Parent Center, with free childcare.
